Three Programs Under Express Entry
Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW)
For skilled workers with foreign work experience. Minimum: 1 year of skilled work experience (NOC TEER 0–3), CLB 7 language proficiency, and an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for non-Canadian education.
Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
For skilled workers with at least 1 year of Canadian work experience in the last 3 years. CEC-specific draws historically have lower CRS cut-offs. If you are working in Canada on a work permit, CEC is typically your most direct PR pathway.
Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST)
For certified tradespeople in NOC TEER 2 or 3 skilled trades. Requires 2 years of skilled trade experience, a qualifying job offer or Certificate of Qualification, and CLB 5/4 language scores.
What Moves the CRS Score
As of 2026, all-programs draw cut-offs have ranged from the high 470s to mid-500s. Key CRS boosters: improving language scores (each CLB level adds 15–30 points), obtaining a provincial nomination (+600 points, virtually guaranteeing an ITA), and an LMIA-backed job offer (+50 or +200 CRS points by NOC level). Express Entry
IRCC draws candidates from the Express Entry pool through regular draws — typically every two weeks for all-program draws, and periodic category-based draws. Candidates above the CRS cut-off receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). After receiving an ITA, you have 60 days to submit a complete PR application. IRCC targets a decision within 6 months.
All-programs draws in 2026 have cut off in the high 470s to mid-500s. CEC-specific draws have had lower cut-offs. OINP-based draws can have cut-offs in the low 400s. Yes. Working in Canada builds CEC eligibility and adds CRS points. You can submit your Express Entry profile at any time. Your work permit does not need to remain valid for the full processing period, but you must maintain valid status in Canada throughout.

Express Entry is a federal points-based competition. A PNP is a provincial selection — if a province nominates you, you receive +600 CRS points which effectively guarantees an ITA in the next draw.
